Run away

My project Run Away, developed in Unreal Engine, draws inspiration from the song " Taxi " by Angèle. At a time when its lyrics deeply resonated with me, I felt compelled to bring them to life visually. Through this piece, I aimed to interpret the emotions and tnhemes of the song in a poetic and artistic way, creating an atmospheric representation of its powerful message

Shot 1

The opening scene takes place in a tram where the floor is covered with flowers, grass, and vegetation, creating a striking contrast with the usual interior of a tram. As the tram moves forward, the vegetation gradually disappears, giving way to a floor covered with water, symbolizing an emotional transition. Inspired by the lyrics of Angèle’s Taxi, this scene reflects both an internal and physical journey, where the fading greenery represents the gradual departure from a place, an emotion, or a cherished memory. The water replacing the flowers at the end of the tram evokes a gentle, universal melancholy, staying true to the spirit of the song.

The second scene transitions to a vast, open space—a hill brimming with the same flowers that once adorned the tram. The camera slowly turns to reveal a solitary exit door, standing incongruously in the middle of the mountain. This door, seemingly leading to nowhere, embodies the idea of escape, a desire to flee from reality into something unknown. As the perspective draws closer, the door becomes a powerful symbol, representing both a retreat from the present and a leap into a new beginning. Passing through it, the imagery connects deeply to Angèle's Taxi, echoing the song's themes of longing, emotional struggle, and the yearning to leave behind burdens in search of clarity and freedom.

The third scene takes us into a serene, dreamlike room containing only a single bed surrounded by millions of flowers sprawling across the floor, as if the room itself has transformed into a vast meadow. This surreal contrast between the simplicity of the bed and the overwhelming abundance of nature evokes a sense of introspection and vulnerability. To the right of the bed, a glowing hole of light beckons, acting as a portal to yet another unknown destination. The camera slowly moves toward this radiant void, immersing itself in the light, symbolizing both surrender and a hopeful journey forward. This moment ties deeply to the themes in Angèle’s Taxi, illustrating a desire to escape emotional heaviness and transition into a space of solace and renewal.

The fourth scene takes a darker, more introspective turn. The setting is enveloped in shadow, with the focus on a staircase descending into a pitch-black room. The camera follows the steps cautiously, building tension, until it reveals a floor once again covered with vibrant flowers, a striking contrast to the surrounding darkness. A single source of light glows softly to the left, the only illumination in this enigmatic space. This solitary light feels like a beacon, hinting at guidance or hope amidst the obscurity. This scene reflects a pivotal moment, embodying the themes of uncertainty, introspection, and the search for light in darkness, resonating with the emotional undertones of Angèle's Taxi.

The final two scenes bring a sense of culmination and liberation. First, we find ourselves in a dark corridor, where the only constant is the bed of flowers underfoot. As we move forward, the darkness begins to give way to light, slowly illuminating the path. At the end of the corridor, we emerge into a grand, Greek-inspired palace, majestic yet devoid of the flowers that have accompanied us throughout the journey.

Walking to the edge of this vast structure, we are met with a breathtaking sight: an endless field of flowers stretching as far as the eye can see. The absence of walls or barriers emphasizes an overwhelming sense of freedom. This final scene feels like a release, a symbolic escape into boundless possibilities.

This progression mirrors the emotional journey conveyed in Angèle's Taxi. Just as the lyrics speak to the longing for escape and release, the imagery transitions from dark, confined spaces to a vast, open world, reflecting the themes of struggle and freedom. The flowers, which symbolize moments of beauty and growth amid adversity, persist through the journey, only to culminate in their infinite expanse. The palace without flowers feels like a reflection of life’s structure and limitations, but the leap beyond it into the endless field captures the spirit of breaking free—a delicate and poetic representation of the music’s underlying emotion.
